In the Beginning.

There was a big bang as I discovered table top wargaming at the tender age of 10 thanks to my brother buying an old copy of White dwarf magazine in 1988, not knowing what it was (he just liked the pictures) he was getting both of us into. We read through the magazine so many times admiring the beautiful models on display. We then preceded to write a shopping list of models we wanted to buy not having a clue about what they were or what game they were for so ended up with a list of models for Warhammer Fantasy, Warhammer 40k, Space marine (old epic for the old boys and girls out there) among many other old classic games Games workshop made back in the day. It would have cost us in the region of about a years pocket money to buy but we had found something we really wanted to do.

We then continued to buy more copies of White dwarf and began to learn about the different systems and realised our mistake with our shopping list and then settled on the games we wanted to do, my brother went for Warhammer 40k and I went for Fantasy, I just loved the monsters back then which were few but stunning. 4th Edition was my first foray into the hobby, back when the boxed games was High elves and Goblins with the old cut outs for the big stuff but it was a stunning box of models that just captured my imagination.

After many many many years (30) doing this hobby, of which they have been grand I have finally decided to join the 21st century and start a Blog about my extensive hobby and my painting, if nothing else to give me the kick up the backside to get things done as over the years I have had many painted models but sadly more often than not they have been sold due to rules changes and games changing like the death of Warhammer Fantasy (RIP) to that god awful travesty called age of Sigmar which first brought us pre curser Space Marines during the Time just before the great crusade, (No matter what anyone tells you from Games workshop) Sigmarines are here to stay sadly.

Update, Life is getting in the way.

So it has been a while since my last post and this is due to my wife having issues and both of us planning for an upcoming operation to remove a tumour from her spine.

Also my Mum has been very ill with several different things and its starting to look like she has the start of Alzheimer’s or dementia, not sure just yet and we have social services coming round to do an assessment to see if they can help.

To say its been stressful is somewhat of an understatement but hey that’s life.

The Tyranid Invasion begins!

One of my largest armies are my Tyranids which I haven’t actually painted anything for so I have decided to get some work done on them so I can take them to an event this year up at Warhammer world in Nottingham.

This is My 2000 point army with a few additions like a 6 Zoanthropes when my list only contains 3 but I might as well paint the whole unit together. I want to go for a colour scheme that is totally different to those published in the codex so I kinda combined a couple and came up with this…….

Its a fairly simple scheme and easy to paint which is ideal seeing as I have well over 300 models to paint. Let the fun begin.

King’s of war log.

So I am delving into King’s of war made by Mantic games, a fantasy game which was my first love, Sadly the army I have gone for is Elves and I’m not keen on the Mantic models for this army so I’m using my old Games workshop High elf models, this will be a complete change as I rebased the army for the tragic game Age of Sigmar and then found the army was basically dropped so they have just sat in a box for a couple of years.

I have a good mix of old and new models, some of the old armoured archers from 4th edition Fantasy up to the new 1 piece plastic sword masters. Here’s some pics to show what I have and what I need to do.

Here’s the full collection although I still need to build the Dragon princes.
60 Archers and 20 sisters of Averlorn.
40 Sea guard.
40 White lions.
40 Phoenix guard.
40 Sword masters.
4 Old metal bolt throwers.
10 Fast cavalry, Ellyrion reavers.
All the characters.

So as you can see I have my work cut out but it’s gonna be fun. I’m going to do the m on multi bases which I have purchased form https://warbases.co.uk/ who were fantastic and make all the bases to size out of 2-3mm MDF. I’m doing my bases as a ruined Elf Temple with plaster cake pillars which I can use to move the larger bases as handles so I don’t damage the models.

The bonus of these apart form being cheap is that they break up realistically so they look like proper ruins and they’re easy to paint. Behind the pillars in the pic above I also have some textured plasticard to represent tiles so they’ll be cut up and glued down with sand around to look like buried flag stones. This is a project I’m really looking forward to starting.

Painted mini’s

All I have painted for my Eldar so far.
All I have painted for my Daemons so far.
My Dark Angels Deathwing so far.

So these are all I have painted so far for my existing armies, over the next few weeks I will be taking photo’s of my full armies so I can see how much I need to paint.

Armies in need of love.

So after all the many years collecting, playing and painting I do have a sizable collection, each army I collect I do so because first and foremost I love the models, its not about how they play or how broken they are in the game it is purely due to the look of the army.

The armies I have are as follows: Dark angels, Eldar, Tyranids, Space wolves, Harlequins, Thousand sons, Death guard, Chaos space marines of which I’m doing a World eaters force and Emperors children force and then I have Daemons with mainly Tzeentch at the mo. but I’m expanding on them with the other marks.

Each of the afore mentioned armies are works in progress and have lots to be painted which will be shown over the coming months, years oh lets be honest decades lol but hey its called a hobby for a reason.

I’m also expanding into non Games workshop games, due to the death of Warhammer fantasy (RIP) I’ve looked into another Fantasy system made by Mantic games called King’s of war. It’s a new venture but I’m really excited to join the ranks and get back to proper Fantasy games. At the mo. I have a High elf army which will be converted over so I can play.
